Harvey Elliott: Liverpool star signs new five-year deal at Anfield

Liverpool have rewarded Harvey Elliott with a new deal to keep him at Anfield until 2027, despite having four years left on his previous deal.

It’s the third contract Elliott has signed with Liverpool in just over three years, having joined from Fulham in 2019 and being given an extended deal 13 months ago.

But a pay raise reflects their policy of giving upgraded and long-term contracts to players they’ve impressed and want to retain.

Elliott said: “It’s always nice to know I’ll be here for many years to come, which is always a great thing when it’s my youth club and there’s nothing in this world that makes me happier and more excited than this.

“There’s no better place in this world than to play for Liverpool and put the shirt on and go out and play. I hope there will be many more memories to come.”

Elliott has made just four league starts for Liverpool but excelled at the start of last season before suffering a dislocated ankle in September’s win at Leeds and has started the current season well, with an influential cameo when she came from behind came to take a point at Fulham on Saturday.

Manager Jurgen Klopp said he was reluctant to sign another midfielder because he wanted to give chances to the teenage trio of Fabio Carvalho, Curtis Jones and Elliott. The England Under-21 international, who joined Liverpool as a winger, is seen as an option in the front three and on the right side of a midfield trio.

Elliott became the youngest player in the Premier League while at Fulham and impressed Liverpool with his maturity and professionalism during his recovery from injury last year.

Liverpool last week gave Diogo Jota a five-year deal when he had three seasons left on his previous contract, while Joe Gomez and Mohamed Salah have also signed to extend their stay at Anfield this summer.

Gomez, Jota and Elliott are part of a group signed until 2027, including Alisson, who will buy Luis Diaz and summer signings Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay in January, while Darwin Nunez has a contract until 2028. Harvey Elliott: Liverpool star signs new five-year deal at Anfield
