Have I Got News For You marks Boris Johnson’s departure as Prime Minister

A new series of Have I Got News For You will begin with a special episode marking the departure of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister.

BBC One’s 64th season will return earlier than usual as the broadcaster covers the World Cup from late November.

The first episode of the TV quiz show, which aired on September 2, was titled Have I Got News For Boris – A Special Tribute.

Mr Johnson is expected to step down from his role on September 6, a day after the results of the leadership showdown between Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss were announced.

It will present a tour of the Prime Minister’s career and his “exceptional contribution to British politics”, it has been announced.

Mr Johnson announced on July 7 that he would step down as Prime Minister after Mr Sunak and Sajid Javid’s cabinet resignations sparked a mass exodus of more than 50 MPs.

He tried to defy his criticism and remained in office, but his resignation continued until he was forced to announce his departure.
