The lead singer of alternative rock band Paramore took the stage on Saturday night with a simple message to supporters of Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis.
Florida’s right-wing governor has turned the state increasingly hostile to marginalized communities, including refugees, black people and LGBTQ Americans. He also signed legislation to make it nearly impossible for Florida residents to seek abortion treatment and has barred schools from teaching students about historical events related to race and gender.
Williams co-founded Paramore in 2007, when the band was largely inspired by punk rock, a genre known for its anti-establishment stance on current events and politics. The Grammy-winning band are currently on their This Is Why tour and opened for Taylor Swift this spring.
