Haywards Heath Fire; Emergency services fight a major fire near the city

A major fire broke out in a former nursing home.

Nearby residents have been warned to stay away as firefighters battled the blaze at Bolnore Farm Lane, near Haywards Heath.

Several crews were called at 7 p.m.

The fire department said ten fire engines had been called out.

It is not believed that anyone was in the building, which was previously a nursing home.

The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are currently fighting a fire at Bolnore Farm Lane, near Haywards Heath.

“Residents are advised to keep their windows closed due to heavy smoke – 10 locomotives are currently in use.

“We were called at 7:08 p.m. to the fire in a former nursing home building.

“The B2272 at Hayward’s Heath has been closed in both directions, from Havester to the Cuckfield Bypass.

“Please continue to avoid the area and keep the windows closed, thank you.”

Just after 9.15pm they said: “Please continue to avoid the area and keep windows closed while we work to get this fire under control.”
