Haywards Heath Primary School was converted into an academy

An elementary school was converted into an academy.

St Wilfrid’s CE Primary School on Haywards Heath has announced that it will be part of the Hurst Education Trust (HET) from January.

The HET is a newly formed multi-academy trust established by Hurstpierpoint College in association with the Diocese of Chichester.

The conversion of the academy under the Academies Act 2010 means that the school will effectively be closed and a new one opened in its place.

Other schools already under the HET umbrella are Ditchling St Margaret’s CE Primary School and Albourne CE Primary School.

In an open letter to parents in January before the conversion, Chair Governors Jill Garraway and Principal Simon Hateley outlined aspects of the school that would remain the same.

This included maintaining the school’s name, uniform, vision, ethos, and curriculum.

They also said there will continue to be a local governing body that includes staff, parents, parish churches and the local community.

The letter also outlined several “benefits,” including “a strong focus on improving experiences and outcomes for all children.”

Darren Carpenter, Chief Financial Officer, Hurst Education Trust, said: “The Principals and Principals of St Wilfrid’s CE Primary School, Haywards Heath are delighted to announce that they have joined the Hurst Education Trust on 1 July 2022.

“The Hurst Education Trust is a newly formed multi-academy trust established as a partnership between the Diocese of Chichester and Hurstpierpoint College, a local independent school, to support schools on their individual journey to excellence.

“The Trust’s primary focus is to enable affiliated schools to provide a truly excellent education and experience for all students.

“The Governors of St Wilfrid’s have made the decision to join the Trust after undertaking extensive due diligence to ensure the partnership with the Trust would benefit the schools and after consulting parents and staff as well the wider community.

“After hearing about the benefits for students and staff, the response was overwhelmingly in favor of joining the Trust.

“Twinning work has begun with each of the schools, with the Trust funding several significant projects taking place in each of the schools ahead of the new school year.”
