A new father spat in a young Garda’s face after he was called to the scene by a relative when she was pulled over on suspicion of driving without insurance, a court heard.
Ason Hennessy Junior (25) was extremely aggressive towards Gardaí and repeatedly said: “You’re not f**king going the car”.
Gardaí later discovered that Hennessy’s relative was fully insured.
Judge David McHugh convicted Hennessy and jailed him for four months.
When he was taken into custody, Hennessy laughed and said he knew the judge would be biased and “he gave me four weeks off”.
Blanchardstown’s Sheephill Avenue defendant was found guilty on January 25, 2019 of assaulting Garda Megan Furey and Garda Rebekah Gaffey at Ashling Heights in Corduff.
Garda Robert Ruddy said he was on mobile patrol when he stopped a vehicle that did not have an insurance card on it.
Gda Ruddy said the young driver pulled out her phone and told her family to come and help her.
Gda Ruddy said Hennessy had run down, and he was immediately aggressive, repeatedly telling him “you don’t take the damn car”.
Hennessy yelled and screamed, and Gda Ruddy said he was the most aggressive person he had ever encountered.
Gda Ruddy said Hennessy was extremely aggressive towards Gda Furey, yelling and yelling right in her face.
The accused was arrested and Gda Furey said Hennessy was put in the back of the squad car.
As she put her hand on his back to help him up the step, Hennessy turned, cleared his throat, and spat right in her face.
Gda Furey said she was spat on in the eyes and briefly incapacitated.
She went back to the train station and washed her eyes.
Gda Gaffey said she was standing behind Gda Furey when Hennessy spat at her and she too was hit with saliva on the right side of her face.
