Healthcare services company Uniphar reports an increase in gross profit

Irish healthcare services company Uniphar said the company met expectations for the first half of the year, with gross profit up 5 percent over the period.

The company, which works with more than 200 multinational pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, said in a trade update that the business had performed strongly despite “continued macroeconomic uncertainty and inflationary pressures.”

The increase in gross profit was due to “outperformance” by its supply chain and retail categories, with organic growth across all businesses.

The company also acquired Irish pharmaceutical services company Navi Group last December, with Uniphar saying mergers and acquisitions will play a key role in the company’s continued growth.

Uniphar said it remains confident that it will meet expectations for the current year across the group. In 2021, the group achieved a turnover of 1.9 billion euros with a gross profit of more than 274.5 million euros.

The group employs more than 2,900 people in Ireland, UK, Germany, Switzerland and the USA, as well as in the Benelux and Scandinavia regions.

“Once again, our Supply Chain & Retail business has exceeded its mid-term guidance, demonstrating the benefits of our market-leading position and the importance of continued investment in this business,” said Chief Executive Ger Rabbette.

“Although the macroeconomic environment remains uncertain, we have been successful in using our size and strong relationships with our long-standing partners to mitigate inflationary headwinds,” he added.

He added that the company is on track to double EBITDA within five years of Uniphar’s IPO, which took place in 2019.
