Terrifying pictures taken from the sky over Ukraine show the entire vicinity being razed by Russian troops.

Images taken by US private satellite company Maxar on Saturday showed fires burning in Mariupol and dozens of apartment buildings burned.

Maxar confirmed fires were raging in the western districts of the port city, where high-rise buildings were severely damaged by Russian bombing and shelling.

Maxar’s photographs include a panoramic view of the fire in an industrial area of the Primorsky district.

The images also showed apartment buildings on fire on Zelinskovo Street.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said: “There are reports of looting and violent confrontations between civilians over the few basic supplies remaining in the city.

Mariupol is one of several cities evacuated by the Ukrainian government today.

Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said the total was at least 13,000 – nearly double the number who had managed to get out the day before.

This is almost double the number of people who tried to get out the day before.

Vereshchuk said in an online message that no one was able to leave the besieged city of Mariupol, and blamed the obstruction of Russian forces.

Moscow has previously accused Ukrainian forces of deliberately trapping people there.
