Tom Parker had planned how he would tell his children about his devastating diagnosis before he died.

The Wanted star tragically passed away on Wednesday after a battle with end-stage brain cancer, glioblastoma.

Tom, who appeared on stage with his bandmates for their tour a few weeks ago, was surrounded by them and his family members as he died peacefully.

The 33-year-old singer previously explained how he “draged himself out of the dark” for his two children, daughter Aurelia, two, and 15-month-old Bodhi.

Tom received the devastating diagnosis while his wife Kelsey was pregnant with their second child, Bodhi, who became “the light at the end of the tunnel” for the couple.

While Bodhi, who was born in October 2020, was far too young to understand what was happening, Tom revealed daughter Aurelia was beginning to realize something was happening.

While he was ill, Tom and Kelsey talked about how they would one day break the news to the children.

Speak with OK! magazine In October 2020 he said: “I’m sure if there is a right point we will talk about it [Aurelia] about that. She’s still so young.

Kelsey added: “We discussed this the other day and we said we’ll tell the kids, especially while Tom is in treatment.

“When we got back from the appointment at King’s College where everything was confirmed to us, Aurelia was such a jerk.

“We didn’t come in crying, but she knew it — she just picks up moods.

“She knows something is going to happen, so I think you need to be as normal as possible. We’ll explain more when she’s old enough to understand that Daddy isn’t well.”

When Bodhi was born, Kelsey, after watching an episode of TOWIE, explained that her son’s name meant “enlightenment.”

“So it fits our situation perfectly right now. He’s the light at the end of our tunnel,” she said.

Kelsey revealed that her husband wasn’t keen on the name at first, adding: “Tom didn’t want the name. I said, ‘Tom, I don’t care what you say – we have Bodhi and that’s it.’”

Kelsey also explained that she wanted her children to realize that the world isn’t always a happy place, but there is always hope.

She added: “I want them to know that life isn’t always rosy, but we get through it. I know we’re going to be like, ‘Dad has a brain tumor but he’s fighting it’.”

The couple had planned to have more children, but unfortunately their wish of having a family of six will not come true.

“We’re planning on having more kids — I’ve always wanted a big family and I think we’ll end up having four,” Kelsey previously said.

“There’s only a 16 month age difference between our two children and it was definitely a lot, even ignoring our circumstances, so I won’t have kids that age again – doing that once was enough.”

Tom loved his children so much

There is absolutely no doubt how much Tom loved his two children, who were vital to his battle with cancer.

When Tom appeared on Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer show last October, he pledged to help and support others by raising money for the charity and opening up about his own fight.

“Cancer can consume you very quickly and very easily,” he explained. “Early on this journey, there was a time when I couldn’t get out of bed. I was so consumed by cancer. It wasn’t the physical side of things, it was the mental side of things.

“I kept thinking, ‘I’m going to die, so what’s the point of getting out of bed?'”

However, Tom was adamant he would fight for his children and said the whole struggle he was going through put life into perspective.

“I had to [drag myself out of the darkness], for my children,” he explained. “I had two under two and a woman. You have to pick yourself up and keep going. It gives you perspective. It makes things so clear.

“You realize the important things in life. And how important the little things are.”

The news of Tom’s tragic death was confirmed by Kelsey in a heartbreaking statement, in which she mentioned he would remain an important part of her children’s lives.

Kelsey wrote on Instagram: “It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that Tom passed away peacefully earlier today with his entire family by his side.

“Our hearts are broken.

“Tom was the center of our world and we cannot imagine life without his infectious smile and energetic presence.

“We are truly grateful for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we all unite to ensure Tom’s light continues to shine for his beautiful children.

“Thanks to everyone who supported him throughout, he fought until the end. I am forever proud of you.”
