HEAVY rain has forced a train operator to close one of its lines for a route safety inspection.
Gravel on the track near Glynde train station near Ringmer has become loose from the downpour.
Southern Rail has closed the line while Network Rail engineers survey the area and ensure it is safe.
A Southern spokesman said: “It has been reported that some ballast alongside the tracks near Glynde has been removed by heavy rain and some lines have been closed while Network Rail engineers conduct a safety inspection.
“We are sorry that trains can be delayed by up to 30 minutes and the disruption is expected to continue until at least 5.30pm.
“Passengers whose journeys are delayed by 15 minutes or more can claim compensation for delay reimbursement.”
