Helen Mirren’s stepson and ‘The Mandalorian’ actor Rio Hackford has died aged 52

Actor Rio Del Valle Hackford, who appeared in Star Wars spin-off show The Mandalorian, has died aged 52.

His brother Alex Hackford confirmed the actor, who was also a club owner, died in California on Thursday after an illness. diversity reports.

His friend, screenwriter DV DeVincentis, paid tribute to the Treme actor, who was the son of An Officer and a Gentleman director Taylor Hackford and stepson of British actress Helen Mirren.

“Not only was he obsessed with movies and how they reflected and captivated, he was more: a superfan of countless scenes, unsung actors’ special gestures, odd career changes, rousing comebacks, cinema swansong,” DeVincentis wrote on Instagram.

In The Mandalorian, Rio starred as the on-set droid IG-11, voiced by Free Guy actor Taiki Waititi.

Most recently, he played a manager in Pam & Tommy, which chronicled the release of the infamous 1990s sex tape between married couple Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.

Hackford has also appeared in the films Jonah Hex, Strange Days and Julia Roberts rom com Pretty Women.

He played a character named Toby for several episodes in Treme, which was set in New Orleans by HBO.

The multi-talented actor has also directed music videos for acts such as Josh Homme’s Desert Sessions and Corrosion of Conformity.

According to Variety, Hackford was known for embracing artists at his three New Orleans clubs.

In addition to New Orleans, he owned a bar in San Francisco and one in Los Angeles.

“He was a huge magnet for creative people, with a Zelig-like path that could turn a bio into a page-turner. He loved the alchemy of personality and talent and was one of the great brokers in that regard,” added DeVincentis.

Many people commented on DV’s post and expressed their sadness.

One person said, “I already miss him so much,” while another said, “I’m so sorry for your loss. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.”

He leaves behind his wife and two children.
