Helen Skelton is said to have hired a private investigator after becoming suspicious of the conduct of her husband, Richie Myler in the months leading up to their split.

The Countryfile presenter, 38, shared on social media last month that the rugby player, 31, had left her after nine years together.

Just last week, it was reported that he had started a new relationship with a new woman – 31-year-old Stephanie Thirkill.

According to a source, Helen suspected infidelity and later used a separate eye to uncover the truth.

“She feels something is wrong in her relationship with Richie,” the insider told The Sun.

They continued: “Hiring a private investigator was the last thing she wanted to do, but she had no choice because she needed to know the truth.

“She contacted Stephanie’s ex to help talk about the situation.

“Emotions are running high and the most important thing for Helen is taking care of her three children and making sure they’re okay during a difficult breakup.”

It is alleged that Helen contacted Stephanie’s estranged husband Richard Sugden, of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, to compare notes on the progress of the relationship.

The new couple confirmed their relationship began after Richie broke up with Helen.

Helen and Richie got married in December 2013, but broke up last month.

Meanwhile, Stephanie, 32, is a Rugby League fan and is the daughter of Andrew Thirkill, one of Leeds’ richest businessmen and is worth an estimated £175m.

She followed in her father’s footsteps to become a successful businesswoman.
