If you’re reading our ongoing Destiny 2 news or have been following the game even with a limited run, you know the latest expansion The Witch Queen is just around the corner! As with any previous expansion, the release will add to the game a host of changes, updates, and new features.
All in all, there can be a lot to learn and research on your own, which is why Dorrani has created a brief video that walks you through many of The Witch Queen’s most important additions. You can check out that video right now embedded right above – a must-see for anyone looking to dip their feet into the game next month.
We get new Dungeons and a new raid
Now, as you’d expect from a big new expansion like The Witch Queen, we’re getting a ton of new co-op and PvE content, and that – of course – includes some new dungeons. However, there are some caveats.
Firstly, dungeons will not appear on the launch day of the Sorceress Queen. At the time of writing, we don’t have any specific release date for this content yet, so revise your expectations before you join. At least you won’t use up that precious content on Day One, right?
These dungeons are also not available to those who purchase the standard version of Destiny 2’s Witch Queen expansion, instead getting paid behind the Deluxe Edition. Unfortunately, so if you want to jump into these dungeons when they’re finally freed, it’s best to save some cash for now and get the pricier version of the game.
There’s also a mysterious new raid in Destiny 2 that projects up to six players can participate in. We don’t know its name, or anything like the full layout of the raid, but if you’ve watched the trailer recently, you’ll see the climax of the raid (possibly without knowing it). ).
The unnamed raid takes place aboard a giant black pyramid ship that has sunk into the swamps of Savathun’s throne world. Players who’ve been following Destiny 2 since it launched will know about these massive ships and the fact that they’re generally bad news, so we’ll have to wait and see what lurks around there. Don’t expect it to be easy.
The expansion will reduce some major story beats
The Witch Queen expansion revolves around, well, the Witch Queen! Savathun is one of the three original leaders of one of Destiny’s main factions – The Hive – and we’re making our way to her throne world to take her down. This is basically the entire planet she has total control over, so it’s safe to say the odds are against us. Just how the guardians like it.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the Sorceress Queen somehow managed to use the same power we’ve been using for years – Light, a gift from The Traveler – and managed to strengthen a her force equals ours. Like respawn, if the trailer is on point. Gulp. Stay tuned for what we learn in this expansion that sets the tone for Destiny 2’s more expansions and story rhythms to come. We have the power of Darkness, and now The Hive has it. the power of Light. Where could it go from here…
For those wanting a deep dive into the lore, you can jump into Destiny 2 right now for a ton of content revolving around the big badness of the next expansion with The Season of the Lost, but you’ll have to do it fast because…
Everything is hidden (again)
A bunch of story content you can play in Destiny 2 right now is being hidden forever when The Witch Queen comes out. Now, this has happened before with the original Destiny 2 campaign (when many of the original Destiny 2 campaigns didn’t work) and we’ll see the same thing happen again with some loot and Seasonal content with this new expansion.
So, if you want to get into Destiny 2 with some background on who Savathun is, and some of the horrible things she’s done, you really have to do it soon. The next wave of content aggregators will arrive on The Witch Queen’s release date, February 22. If you want to really get to grips with your D2 lore, you’ve got about a month to do so.
We finally get weapon crafting
Enough of the stuff being put out, let’s get back to the new stuff being included! One of the new headline features is weapon crafting, which allows players to craft new and old weapons from scratch, while also being able to add certain stats they’re aiming for, instead of praying RNJesus to get the perfect weapon roll. In theory, this should save a lot of time in the long run, and should save you in scrolling through dungeons just to get your favorite gun with the little seen perk you already have. done over several weeks.
Any of you who’ve been into Destiny 2 recently will be using HELM and umbral etchings that allow players to craft certain items with specific stats as their primary focus. That’s why this weapon crafting system will build on an established base of seasonal items. We still don’t know how much we’ll be able to customize our new loot, but this will hopefully knock some randomness out of Destiny 2.
Say hello to Glaive
To wrap things up, we’re getting a new melee weapon with the release of The Witch Queen. This new weapon – the Glaive – will follow the sword as an option if you want to get up close and personal in the Crucible or with the Hives you’ll be butchering, on the planetary side. But, unlike the sword, you are in first person when equipping and using Glaive. Because first-person melee combat always works so well…
Interestingly, Glaives will be sitting in the energy weapon slot rather than the power weapon slot, perhaps implying that there will be more focus on melee in this expansion (which makes sense if you need to kill a Thrall every time you wake up on Hive).
If that’s not exciting enough for you, Glaives will also let you fire bullets, giving the weapon both offensive and defensive capabilities, as well as the convenience of crowd control. Talk about a change of all professions. So if you’re tired of zooming around the map with Eager Edge perks, maybe Glaive will rekindle some of the crunchy dueling passion we all felt when Swords was added. game in The Taken King.
Let us know below, are you excited to join The Witch Queen on February 22nd and what new additions are you specifically looking forward to in the video?
