Before doing a factory reset, it’s a good idea to make sure you’ve backed up any data you still need from Settings, Apple ID, iCloud, and iCloud Backup.

You should also make sure your iPhone is connected to WiFi and plug it into power to be safe.

  • 1. First, open your iPhone settings.
  • 2. Scroll down until you see General and then tap on it.
  • 3. Next, tap Reset – it’s one from the bottom of the list, just above Shut down.

Some iPhone models will not ask you for the passcode, so you can use the above steps to factory reset your iPhone without passcode.

You need the passcode to restore your iPhone after reset and you can only restore to your last backup.

You can reset your iPhone to the latest version of iOS without the passcode using iTunes, which is still available even though it has been discontinued.

On a newer iPhone model or with a Mac computer, you can do this without needing iTunes.

  • 1. On your computer, download the latest version of iTunes from the App Store.
  • 2. Put your phone in recovery mode by following these steps
  • 3. To do this, simultaneously press and hold the power button and a volume down button (or just the power button on iPhone 7) until the Power Off slider appears.
  • 4. Turn off your iPhone using the slider.
  • 5. Connect your iPhone to your computer while holding down the power button (or a volume down button for iPhone 7).
