YOUR iPhone has a hidden secret that allows it to be found even when it’s turned off.
So don’t panic if you’ve lost your device – there may still be hope.
You have methods to find it if you lost it at home or even if it is further away.
Apple’s iPhone is larger these days but still small enough to relocate.
If you forget yours iPhone In the office, the Find My Phone app makes it easy to locate the device on a map.
This even works when the device is switched off.
That’s because Apple has built Ultra Wideband technology into some recent iPhone models.
So other iPhones or Apple devices that have been in the vicinity of the handset will “ping” it to Apple’s Find My network.
All you need is someone with an Apple device moved close to the iPhone and it will show up on the map – even if it’s turned off.
However, your iPhone can only be tracked using this method if it has UWB technology.
Supported models include:
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 pro
- iPhone 11 Pro max
- iPhone 12 mini
- iphone 12
- iPhone 12 pro
- iPhone 12 pro max
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 pro
- iPhone 13 Pro max
To enable this you need to go into Settings then tap on your name and then select Find My.
Now tap on “Find My iPhone” and turn on “Find My iPhone”.
But a map is useless if your phone is buried under a pile of clothes or has found its way into your kitchen waste.
Luckily, iCloud lets you “ping” your handset and force it to send out a quick alert — helping you track it down.
For Apple Watch owners, it’s easiest: just swipe up on your watch’s screen, then tap the button, which looks like an iPhone emitting sound waves.
Alternatively, anyone with another Apple device — like another iPhone, an iPad, or an iPod Touch — can download the Find My Phone app.
Once you have the app installed, tap on the iPhone you are missing and then press the “Play Sound” button.
This forces the iPhone to make a sound even when it’s on silent.
If you don’t have any other Apple devices, the next best option is to sign up iCloud.com.
From there, you can access Find My iPhone feature and play a sound on iPhone.
Using Find My iPhone is a very useful feature – even apart from the iPhone noise ping system.
You can also use it to locate lost devices on a map, which is great for tracking lost or stolen cell phones.
It’s also possible to remotely erase your iPhone — or any other Apple device — to prevent thieves from stealing your information or files.
