A father was photographed smiling with his family before drowning and saving his children’s lives in a near double tragedy.

Brad Coleman can be seen in the March 4 snap with his wife Hulya and their two children Raiden and Aleyna.

At the time, the family had just arrived in Hyam’s Beach on the south coast of New South Wales on holiday.

Just hours after the happy family photo was taken, Raiden and Aleyna went for a swim in the ocean, News.com.au reports.

Suddenly, an unusually strong current began to pull them into deeper water, causing the children to scream in fear.

Brad fell into the water and managed to swim through the water to Raiden (12) and Aleyna (11) who he helped get to safety.

Unfortunately, the 40-year-old did not survive.

The family had just arrived on vacation

Hulya heard the commotion and rushed to the waterfront, where she suffered a heart attack brought on by shock, reports 2GB.

The mother of two had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

Days after her release, the family suffered another tragic loss when her father died.

“This poor family from Sydney’s west has been going through so much heartache in the last few weeks and the future is going to be tough,” present Ben Fordham told listeners on 2GB.

“They are just really decent people who have endured extraordinary tragedies. Everyone who knew Brad loved him dearly. He died a hero.”

It happened on Hyam Beach

Brad’s obituary reads: Esteemed husband of Hulya. Dear Raiden & Aleyna’s father. Esteemed son of Susan & Greg.

“Dear Brother of Steven & Scott. Brad was a loving grandson, nephew, cousin, brother-in-law and friend to many. So close, no matter how far.”

Relatives Jen Couttas said that Brad was an extraordinary person and that his death completely devastated the family.

The grieving relative said that Hulya was “absolutely devastated” by the death.

A fundraiser has been set up for the family which has raised the equivalent of more than £40,000.

On the page’s description, family friends wrote that the Colemans were away for a much-needed break when tragedy struck.

A fundraiser has now started

“On that Friday afternoon, a rare long weekend getaway for the family, Brad’s kids, ages 12 and 11, got into trouble in the water,” they recalled.

“Brad, a devoted father, didn’t hesitate. As a hero, he saved his children, but unfortunately could not save himself.

“Brad is survived by his two children, Raiden and Aleyna, and his wife and soulmate, Hulya. His family has to face a future without him, their lives have changed instantly in the most painful ways.

“Brad was my brother, my best friend, and the best man I knew. On behalf of my family, I am setting up this GoFundMe to support Hulya and the children. It is open to anyone who can contribute.”
