A heroic Ukrainian mother saved her baby’s life from Russian shelling by protecting her body.

Olga, 27, was seriously wounded by shrapnel in Vladimir Putin’s attack on Kyiv last week.

In a moving picture shared online, she can be seen cradling her one-month-old baby while a man believed to be her partner comforts her.

Miraculously, the little girl is believed not to have been hurt thanks to her quick-thinking mother.

The two were cared for on Friday in the Kiev children’s hospital Ohmatdyt.

Journalist Anastasiia Lapatina, who works for the English-language newspaper Kyiv Independent, said the baby is fine.

She tweeted: “This woman, Olga, covered her one-month-old baby with her body when she was shot at #Kiev and was seriously injured.

“The baby was not hurt. The family is now being treated in Ohmatdyt.”

It comes as the Russian advance on Kyiv falters and forces falter northeast of the city.

Overnight, Russian bombs destroyed a shopping center in Kyiv, killing at least eight people.

Firefighters worked all night to rescue Ukrainians trapped under the rubble of the complex.

The Retroville shopping center in the capital’s Podilskyi district was hit just before 10:48 p.m. last night.

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office said at least eight people were killed in the strike, the Kyiv Independent reports.

According to the AFP news agency, the bodies of six people were laid out in front of the destroyed building.

Glass and other debris can be seen raining down from the sky in the clip, while another video shows a pile of debris covered in flames.

The Kremlin attack from the direction of Hostomel – in the northwest – was pushed back.
