The owner of a burger van whose holiday was canceled by TUI has put up a bizarre sign in the middle of a city centre.
Virginia Hulston, owner of Burger van Couch Potato, was due to fly out of Manchester Airport for a two-week holiday in Turkey on Monday.
However, her friend who booked the flights called her on her way to work this morning to say that her long-awaited vacation was cancelled.
A sign hung on their burger van on Oxford Road, Manchester this morning read: “We’re open next week because TUI has canceled my holiday. Thanks, don’t.”
The burger owner said she didn’t stock her fast food van as usual because she expected to be gone for the next two weeks.
Virginia said: “I was very upset this morning.
“We were planning to close for just under two weeks, but now we won’t.”

She added: “It’s annoying, but it’s just one of those things. There’s no use getting upset about it.
“I would have been more upset if I had gotten to the airport and stood there for five hours before I found out!”
Travel agency TUI has taken the drastic step of cutting flights, which will decimate half-year and summer plans for around 34,000 people.
TUI says it is designed to help solve the “issues” that have caused flight delays, cancellations and baggage problems in recent days.
Hundreds of other holidaymakers have taken to social media to complain about the tour company’s cancellation of their own trips.
One person wrote on Twitter: “I was supposed to go for a week on Monday.

Another said: “My brother’s TUI flights to Menorca were canceled at the end of June. A shame.”
Another man said: “This needs to be sorted out quickly, it’s a complete mess. People work hard all year for a vacation and because of your incompetence they can’t even enjoy it.”
In a statement on Tuesday, TUI said: “” We would like to apologize to our customers who have experienced flight delays and cancellations in the last few days and understand that many of our customers have been looking forward to their holiday with us for a long time.
“Due to the ongoing disruption to our operations at Manchester Airport, we have taken the incredibly difficult decision to cancel six flights per day (43 flights per week) from Tuesday 31st May to Thursday 30th June.
“All other UK airports are to operate normally.
“We understand how disappointing this will be for those affected; however we believe this is necessary to ensure stability and better customer service at Manchester Airport.
“We will continue to work closely with all our airport partners and suppliers to offer our customers the best possible holiday experience.”
They said affected customers would receive a full refund for their holiday, as well as an “additional goodwill gesture”.
Affected customers will also receive information on how to apply for regulatory compensation within the next 14 days.
They added: “We want to reassure our customers that cancellations of this nature are extremely rare and want to thank them for their patience and understanding.”
