Holby City announces final episode of BBC show date – and it’s really soon

Holby City bosses have confirmed a broadcast date for the BBC show’s final episode after it went awry last year after more than two decades on screen. The last episode will air in a few weeks

Holby City: Hospitals get more bad news

Holby City bosses have confirmed its final episode will air in just a few weeks.

The BBC medical drama is coming to an end this month after 23 years on our screens, leaving fans heartbroken as they called for the show to be restarted once more, signing petitions and build support on social media.

However, it has now been revealed that the show will air its final episode at the end of the month, when the cast and crew – who have finished filming – say goodbye to their characters one last time.

At the time it was announced the program would end, the BBC acknowledged it was a difficult decision.

“We regret to bring you the sad news that Holby City is coming to an end next March, after 23 wonderful years. We are so grateful to all the cast, crew, writers, Holby’s amazing producer – and our millions of loyal viewers and fans for being on our show,” a Twitter post from the show read at the time.

“This difficult decision reflects the BBC’s commitment to making more programming available across the UK and better reflecting, representing and serving every part of the country. Holby will continue to broadcast on different channels. Tuesday through next March and we’ll continue to bring you a regular dose of all things Holby right here until then We promise Holby will get what it deserves. “

It has now been confirmed that the final episode will air on Tuesday, March 29.

Another BBC statement confirmed the news and that the end of the show would “make way for new opportunities”.

“We’re incredibly proud of Holby City but also saddened as we announce that after 23 years, the show will end on screen next March.

“We sometimes have to make tough decisions to make room for new opportunities and as part of the BBC’s commitment to delivering more programming across the UK, we’ve made the decision. The difficult decision was to end the program to reshape BBC drama to better reflect, represent and serve all parts of the country.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing team at BBC Studios and all the cast and crew who have been involved with the show since 1999.

* The final episode of Holby City will air on Tuesday, March 29.
