Holby City fans devastated as favorite Jac Naylor leaves after 16 years on BBC drama series

Holby City fans were amazed when the legendary Guy Self returned to BBC1 hospital drama last night.

The consultant neurosurgeon – played by John Michie – returned to the show on Tuesday, visiting Jac Naylor, who was on the verge of death as her health deteriorated.

Jac – played by Rosie Marcel – is increasingly desperate to find a life-saving treatment as her brain tumor worsens.

Surgeons turned to a different specialist after pushing hospital staff hard – and it turned out to be the legendary Guy.

John hasn’t appeared on the show since 2020, so it was a nice surprise for fans.

His character and Rosie arranged to meet at a bar.

As they chatted, Jac curiously asked him if the procedure to remove her brain tumor could be done.

But he’s the bearer of bad news, like the other characters on the show.

He offered her another dire prognosis, saying, “Until a point.”

Guy added: “Not too much difficulty. Of course you’re going to have suffered a major fatal stroke by the time I finish, so it has its limitations too.”

He concluded: “But then you know this, Jac. You just don’t want to accept it – I’m really sorry.”

After their conversation, Max McGerry appears and Guy confesses that Max contacted him to make Jac feel right.

Both urge Jac to inform her close people about her situation.

Taking to Twitter to talk about his comeback, one person wrote: “I don’t like him (Guy not John) but we all love a baddie.”

Another said: “One thing has remained the same about Holby over the years: no matter what, Guy Self will always find a way back. It’s comforting to see that it’s still true in the end.”

“So nice to see Guy Self back,” wrote a third viewer, while another wrote: “Oh my gosh, so nice to see the old man again!”

Last week, beloved surgeon Michael Spence made an unexpected comeback.

And Serena Campbell and Bernie Wolfe returned to Holby City Hospital in February.

* Holby City airs on Tuesdays on BBC1.
