To exclude, to expel:

There have been medical murders, love triangles, and earth-shattering explosions for an astounding 23 years.
But after tonight, despite outcry from die-hard fans (like me) and a strong petition of up to 44,000 people eager to reverse the cancellation, hospital drama Holby City will no more.
Started as a spin-off of Casualty in 1999, there were only nine episodes in series one.
However, as its popularity skyrocketed, reaching nine million viewers at its peak, to its fourth series, the series was shown weekly, with filming taking place 50 weeks out of the year.
We are lost. Come tonight, I’ll be entering a brief period of mourning, along with at least 43,926 of the millions of Holby fans who can’t believe it’s the final episode. But it’s not just us, the fans who get gutted.
Rosie Marcel, 44, who played hot-tempered doctor Jac Naylor for 16 years, said: “It still doesn’t feel real.
“I would love to play Jac. I thought I would play Jac for the rest of my life because I love her. Jac is my friend. I know she’s not real but of course, she’s me. .”
Rosie’s first appearance was on November 22, 2005, when Jac raced on his motorcycle, head to toe in leather, determined to make a name for himself.
At the heart of a long list of startling storylines, from getting caught trying to kill a patient and donating a kidney to the mother who abandoned her, to discovering a missing sister. long ago and was shot dead, that is to say the least.
She said: “I’ve taken breaks before. But I always knew I would come back. When you stop, it’s confusing.”
What’s next for Rosie is being announced. Currently, she is enjoying time with daughter Beau, seven, and husband Ben Stacey, renovating their Hertfordshire farm.
She happily followed her co-stars Joe McFadden, Chizzy Akudolu and Jaye Jacobs, 2017 winners, saying, “I would love to do it. I’ll be the next Ann Widdecombe.”
Rosie added: “I will absolutely stay in touch with everyone, people like Guy Henry [Henrik Hanssen]Amy Lennox [Chloe] and Belinda [Owusu – Nicky McKendrick] and Bob Barrett, who is absolutely my best friend. ”

Bob, 55, made his debut as venue registrar Sacha Levy in 2010. His appearance shocked nurse Chrissie Williams, played by Tina Hobley, after the pair had one-night stand.
Bob recalls: “I said ‘Oh, hi,’ she got up from the table and I could see she was 6 months pregnant. “And she was like, ‘Yes, that’s yours.’ That’s great.”
Bob’s storylines range from funny to painful, including the episode where his true love Essie dies of cancer on the way to their wedding.
As well as a stellar cast, the BBC drama has attracted big name guests over the years from Michael Fassbender and Frances Barber to Olivia Colman and Sheridan Smith.

Bob said: “I miss Maureen Lipman, Brian Murphy, who was at George and Mildred. “I was doing a scene with Brian and I called him George. Everyone laughed. I loved him, I had a great time with him.
“My favorite is Dudley Sutton, if you remember him in Lovejoy.”
Jaye Jacobs joined the BBC show in 2004 as enthusiastic staff nurse Donna Jackson. Recalling being cast in the role, the 39-year-old star said: “Holby changed my life.
“My agent called me, and he said, ‘Where are you? Because you will miss this moment.
“Holby was massive at the time. It was the most diverse show on terrestrial television. That’s why I watched it, because there were so many black and brown faces in it. It was brilliant in every way. .”
Jaye’s character had her fair share of dramatic backstory, including falling asleep with her friend Mickie Hendrie, played by Kelly Adams.

Jaye said: “We had an idea steal. She’s called a cannibal but she’s more of a party girl.”
Jaye, who had to take a hiatus from Waterloo Road and reprise her role as Holby in 2017, said of her other favorite storylines: “Having an affair with Michael Spence and his shiny suits.
“There’s cocaine with the character of Robert Powell … and there’s a great story with Clarke Peters, who plays my father. I love my time.”
But Holby was bowing overhead. Bob said, “I didn’t see it coming. “The show is as good as it went. It’s coming to an end but it’s still a golden age.”
With some legends set to make a final return, brace yourself for tears before the cinema’s final curtain falls.
Holby City ends on BBC One tonight at 7.50pm.
