The Holby City cast was “completely unaware” that the film would be ruined after two decades.
David Ames, who stars on the BBC medical drama, is saddened that the show will come to an end tonight after 23 years on screen, and while he has promised a spectacular finale, he admittedly none of the show’s cast knew that the show was over.
Appearing on ITV’s Lorraine today, he was asked if he – or any of his co-stars – had an idea the show might end but he insisted no one any of them have any idea it’s being garbled.
Asked by Lorraine if any of the cast had a feeling something was going to happen, David – who plays Dominic Copeland – admitted: “We don’t know at all. Totally don’t know. I remember I had one short chat with Russell T Davies about this one.
“Normally you would hear a little rumbling – someone would know something – but not a thing,” he said.
However, David has promised that tonight’s finale will be very special for audiences, as much-loved character Jac Naylor’s life is still in balance when she suffers from a brain tumor.
The BBC shocked fans when it announced Holby City would end.
“We regret to bring you the sad news that Holby City is coming to an end next March, after 23 wonderful years. We are so grateful to all the cast, crew, writers, Holby’s amazing producer – and our millions of loyal viewers and fans for being on our show,” a Twitter post from the show read at the time.
“This difficult decision reflects the BBC’s commitment to making more programming available across the UK and better reflecting, representing and serving every part of the country. Holby will still be broadcast on the following dates. Tuesday through next March and we’ll continue to bring you a regular dose of all things Holby right here until then We promise Holby will get what it deserves. “
Fans have since launched a petition begging the show to be reinstated but bosses have been deadlocked with the decision to cut it.
