Holiday fears in Ibiza & Mallorca due to major hotel closures

BRITS could struggle to find a Spanish holiday this year as popular resorts close thousands of hotel rooms.
Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera will all be affected following the announcement.

According to Express, the Balearic islands want to attract “fewer but better” tourists, leading to the government’s plans.
If this continues, the capacity of holiday accommodation will be reduced by up to 100,000.
Balearic President Francina Armengol said the cuts would come within four years.
She added that they had to “make the decision” while ensuring the “balance” on the islands.

That’s not the only problem that could affect a Spanish holiday for Brits.
The tourism industry in the Balearic Islands has problems hiring enough staff before the summer, partly because of high rents and low wages.
According to local media, some employees are forced to live in their cars and desperate hotels are using some of their rooms to rent out to workers.
Some hotels on the islands may not be able to reopen during the busy summer season due to supply shortages affecting hotel pools.
Many hotel pools cannot be used until the current equipment is replaced, but the waiting time is six months.
New tourism laws planned in the Balearic Islands could even spell the end of beach clubs on the islands, particularly Ibiza.
But the biggest change for tourists this year is new rules in Ibiza and Mallorca, which cap the amount of alcohol Brits can drink, even if they’ve paid for an all-inclusive package.
Only six alcoholic beverages may be consumed, three of them at lunch and another three at dinner.
There are a number of other Spanish laws that you must also be aware of.
