Wim started using the freezing water technique in his native Netherlands after his first wife tragically passed away.

Olaya, who took her own life in 1995, left behind Wim and four children aged 12 to 7.

Wim told the publication: “In the cold water, you don’t feel any mental pain. You don’t feel anything. You’re just surviving. Your thoughts stop and your body takes in. That just gave me a little bit of relief and that was enough for the healing to work.

“After that, I had all the energy I needed to take on the world. But I learned that by taking care of four children alone with no money.”
