Cristiano Ronaldo has shared a touching first picture of his baby daughter following the death of his newborn son.
In an online statement on Thursday, Ronaldo shared a picture of the family with the new arrival and thanked his fans for their “kind words” and “support” following the death of his little boy.
The 37-year-old, who has four older children, announced last October that he and partner Georgina Rodriguez are expecting twins.
However, on Monday the sad death of his newborn son was announced.
In his social media post today, Ronaldo said it was “time to be thankful” for the couple’s new girl.
The statement read: “Home sweet home. Gio and our little girl are finally with us. We want to thank everyone for all the kind words and gestures.”
“Your support is very important and we have all felt the love and respect you have for our family. Now is the time to be thankful for the life we just welcomed into this world.”
A statement from Ronaldo and Rodriguez on Monday said the death of their little boy was “the greatest pain any parent can feel.”
Minutes of applause ensued at Anfield during Tuesday’s Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester United, which Ronaldo missed following the death of his son.
Ronaldo thanked the spectators at Anfield for their sympathy and respect.
“Me and my family will never forget this moment of respect and compassion.”
Ronaldo wrote on Instagram: “One world… One sport… One global family… Thank you Anfield,” he said.
Ronaldo became a first-time father to his son Cristiano Jr. in June 2010 and then became a father to twins, daughter Eva and son Mateo, who were born in June 2017 in the United States.
Ms Rodriguez gave birth to Manchester United striker Alana Martina’s fourth child in 2017.
