A teenager has been charged with the murder of a Jaguar Land Rover engineer who was stabbed to death outside a supermarket.

Ian Kirwan was found critically injured after being slashed in front of horrified shoppers at the Asda store in Redditch, Worcestershire, on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old man died at the scene from a stab wound despite the best efforts of medics and a nurse on duty.

A 14-year-old boy has since been charged with murder and appeared before Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Friday.

Ian’s devastated family has paid tribute to her “warmest and kindest husband” who has “the greatest sense of humor” and is a talented musician and loves animals.

In a statement released through West Mercia Police, they said: “We are absolutely devastated by the loss of Ian.

“He was the warmest, kindest man and always loved his family and friends.

“Anyone who knows him will know he is both intelligent and humble and always ready to assist anyone in need.

Ian is said to have been attacked after accidentally bumping into a group of young men outside a supermarket.

A total of 11 people, from the south Birmingham area, were arrested in connection with the attack.

One of the boys was charged with murder while three faced further questioning and seven were released to take no further action.
