Hotel Chocolat is recalling items with undeclared peanuts

hotel chocolate has issued a recall for a product containing peanuts not listed on the label.

The recalled product is the hotel chocolate Caramel Milk Batons with a best before date of July 2023 and lot codes Lot 22286 and Lot 22287.

Because the item contains undeclared peanuts, this could pose a health risk to anyone suffering from a peanut allergy.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is advising customers who bought the above product between October 21st and November 9th who have a peanut allergy not to eat it. Instead, return it to the store it was purchased from for a full refund.

The FSA said: “hotel chocolate is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organizations who will be informing their members of the recall.

“The company has also issued a point of sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do once they have purchased the product. Please see the attached notice.”

What is a product recall?

If there is a problem with a food item that means it should not be sold, it can be “withdrawn” (taken from the shelves) or “recalled” (when customers are asked to return the product).

The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to inform consumers and local authorities of food-related issues.

In some cases, a “Food Alert for Action” is issued.

This will provide local authorities with details of specific actions to be taken on behalf of consumers. Hotel Chocolat is recalling items with undeclared peanuts
