According to comments from studio CEO Ilari Kuittinen, the next game from PlayStation Studios Housemarque will not be a Returnal sequel. VentureBeat reports.
In an interview with journalists last week DICE awardsHousemarque executives spoke at length about the studio’s future, future projects and the studio’s relationship with PlayStation at a time when the publisher is increasingly focused on live-service gaming.
“We’re one of the very last dinosaurs to make arcade games,” said Kuittinen. “A few years ago, Nex Machina was an 80’s coin ops style shoot ’em up game. That’s kind of a hint. But it’s interesting. We’ve thought about it. We spent our time working on multiplayer games because a few years ago it seemed like you needed to have some kind of multiplayer experience. We tried that, but we really didn’t do that well. But we’re still at the beginning of a new game, a new IP, a concept for it. We’ll see what comes of it.”
