A SEAFRONT restaurant hopes it can serve alcohol longer and be open 20 hours a day.
Rockwater, based in Western Esplanade, Hove, is looking to extend its alcohol license even further.
It can serve alcohol as early as 11am to 3am on Saturdays and Sundays, but now wants to start serving pints from 10am on weekends.
The owners have also asked to open from 7am every day of the week instead of the current 11am.
That means Rockwater could theoretically be open 20 hours a day.
However, there are conditions to the license renewal, which means anyone who wants to drink alcohol after 10am must be seated and have a “significant” meal.
People have reacted online to the alcohol license renewal offer with divided reviews, although most support it.
“I don’t think it’s anyone’s business to turn down something,” one person said.
“It’s not a residential area so give people some freedom to run a business. This isn’t a village. This is supposed to be a city.”
The application was submitted to Brighton and Hove City Council on August 11, with a result expected on October 5.
The Argus attempted to contact Rockwater owner Luke Davis, but received no response.
Mr Davis previously told The Argus that his venue would “not be a nightclub” despite the 3am license.
“It was agreed that it will be 12:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 1:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday,” he said ahead of its 2020 opening.
“I also agreed that the 3 o’clock license is only used up to 20 times a year for pre-planned events like weddings or New Year’s Eve.”
Rockwater, which describes itself as a “relaxed beachside destination with a terrace and trendy atmosphere, serving food, drinks and light snacks”, is open to the public but also offers an exclusive membership for £750 a year.
Mr Davis previously said the membership card “simply provides priority access to certain events” and is designed to ensure locals have priority over “out of town”.
