New research has shown that the color of your car can save you money – or increase your chances of being in an accident.
Some colors are considered “safer,” which means your insurance may be slightly cheaper.
According to Go Direct Insurance, the most popular car color in the UK is silver, followed by white.
But if you want to avoid a crash, white cars are actually safer than silver, according to research from Monash University’s Center for Accident Research.
And to keep yourself safe and your insurance rates low, Britons should avoid buying a black car.
These are believed to be the most likely to lead to road traffic accidents.
White cars are 12% less likely to be involved in an accident than black cars – at any time of day.
In some surveys, yellow cars actually outperformed white as the safest color.
The reason behind this study is simple – Black cars are harder to see than white cars, especially at night.
Black cars tend to blend in and the roads are often black as well.
Similarly, dark blue and gray cars are also more prone to accidents than lighter colored cars.
There are many factors that determine the cost of car insurance.
These include your age, where you live, the type of vehicle, the driving experience you have and if you have previously claimed.
An insurance company may think a younger driver is more at risk, and premiums may be higher if you live in an area with a high crime rate.
The premium will also be calculated based on how often and how far you will use the vehicle and if it is driven for business, pleasure or both.
While that may seem unfair, due to a lot of research, you may be charged a little more for driving a black car.
