That same year, she also began presenting the podcast You, Me and the Big C, starring cancer patients Lauren Mahon and Rachael Bland.
In May 2022, Deborah posted an update on her condition, admitting that she had stopped treatment and was receiving end-of-life care instead.
She is at her parents’ house in Woking and spends most of her time with her family.
On 5 Live she said they were out in the sun and she told her husband and children that she loved them.
What did Deborah James say about her children?
While Deborah has remained resilient throughout her journey, she broke down in tears over BBC Breakfast while discussing her children.
She said: “It was awful telling my kids. My first thought was, “I don’t want them to see me like that.”
“I didn’t think I could talk to them without crying, but I’d like to cuddle one last time.”
Working through her “death administration,” Deborah says letters to Eloise and Hugo are high on her to-do list.
“I want you to have milestone letters and fun messages: Here’s my advice for your wedding day; what to do on a first date,” she explained.
In her latest column, Deborah wrote: “I was mentally in overdrive and with the help of my husband Seb we made sure the kids had keepsake boxes – we bought them presents for certain important birthdays to come.
“I don’t want to die — I can’t face the thought that I won’t see my children’s weddings or see them grow up — that I will no longer be a part of the life I love so much.”
Deborah raised a staggering £3million for her Bowelbabe Cancer Research Fund in just three days of her announcement on Monday 9th May 2022.
Bowelbabe was donated by Prince William and Kate Middleton, who praised Deborah’s “joie de vivre and her unwavering desire to give back to society.”
