How NatWest can help you reduce emissions and lower energy costs

NatWest created one free digital CO2 planner Tool to help all businesses, not just NatWest customers, reduce their carbon emissions and become more sustainable.

It comes like new NatWest Sustainability PMI Research shows that in 2023, three-quarters (76%) of major UK companies are urgently looking for more efficient, low-carbon energy sources to help them cope with rising fuel bills.

This invaluable tool is available to everyone, not just NatWest customers, as the banking giant promises to help SMBs reduce their carbon footprint and costs.

It’s part of the banking giant’s broader £100bn deal Climate and sustainable finance and finance Obligation.

The Argos:

Solange Chamberlain, Chief Operating Officer for Commercial and Institutional at NatWest Group, said: “Businesses of all sizes are coming under increasing pressure from rising energy costs.

“Our new Carbon Planner tool aims to help address these challenging conditions by providing a clear case for investing in sustainability by giving companies better insight into areas of high energy and carbon consumption.

“Looking at this latest data, it is clear that while large companies may be in a better position to switch to low-carbon energy sources, SMEs still need our support.

“Our Carbon Planner is designed to be easy to use and applicable regardless of the size of the organization.”

The Argos:

The nationwide survey has measured the attitudes and actions of purchasing managers across the UK and reveals how concerned UK businesses are about rising energy costs.

That NatWest carbon planner offers personalized actions based on user data, enabling users to make more informed decisions when looking to reduce their carbon emissions.

Businesses can benefit from important information such as the potential savings from adopting sustainability measures and the time it takes to achieve a return on investment.

But how does the Carbon Planner help companies on their way to net zero? It guides a business through four practical steps to help them take action:

  • Inform – Informs companies about their current emissions hotspots and suggests alternatives to reduce business inefficiencies and lower costs
  • Plan – helps companies develop an action plan and builds confidence in decision-making when setting climate action plans or carbon reduction targets
  • Diagnosis – helps companies understand what is best for their business and invites colleagues to the platform to help or share the journey and goal of the business climate
  • Deliver – Identify potential options available to help them take action that will help their business and have the potential to reduce environmental impact

The Argos:

Of the top five sustainability priorities measured, shifting to low-carbon energy sources was ranked as the top priority for large UK companies. Conversely, this priority is lower and has fallen among SMEs since the last quarter.

Instead, they prioritize sustainability actions that they believe are more achievable given rising costs, such as recycling (51%) over low-carbon energy use (44%).

The Carbon Planner tool was developed using climate-specific insights and feedback from more than 2,000 companies.

More than half (58%) of the companies surveyed believe they will need financial support to reduce their carbon footprint. 77% felt that the Carbon Planner will be “extremely” or “very” valuable to their organization.
