How the Amazon Prime price increase will affect gamers

AMAZON recently announced they are increasing the price of Prime membership subscriptions. Here’s how it affects Prime Gaming.

From 15 September, Amazon Prime’s monthly subscription cost will increase from £7.99 to £8.99.

The increase is higher for those paying annually, going from £79 to £95 for the year.

This change comes amid a cost of living crisis, with many using their Prime subscriptions to cut entertainment costs.

Many use their Prime membership to get free games and rewards through Prime Gaming, although this may not be cost effective after the increase.

Those who use Prime Gaming to subscribe to their favorite Twitch channel for free will see a noticeable change.

Twitch recently dropped the price of monthly subscriptions in the UK to £3.99.

The price increase will result in Prime users paying even more than ever before compared to Twitch subscriber prices.

If you only use Prime Gaming for the free Twitch subscription, subscribing to Amazon Prime can cost an additional £60 per year.

However, Prime Gaming will continue to offer free in-game currency and bonuses across a range of live service games including Pokémon Go, Valorant, GTA Online and Apex Legends.

This could save you money when you’re likely to spend via microtransactions in these games.

Prime Gaming also offers a handful of PC games that are free to download each month.

This month Maniac Mansion, Suzerain, Fishing: North Atlantic and Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark are available to download.

While most of these games cost more than Prime’s price elsewhere, your subscription may not be worth the cost if you’re not a PC gamer or download these games infrequently.

Prime also offers discounts on a number of gaming pre-orders. However, sometimes better deals can be found on other storefronts.

For example, Prime users can get a 10% discount on the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which costs £44.99.

Those who shop at Currys get 15% off their pre-order and save an extra £7.

It’s up to players whether the price increase is worth it for them personally, but hopefully this guide will help you decide.
