How the House of Dragon Time Leap Affects Laena Velaryon

During the first six episodes of “House of the Dragon,” Laena Velaryon was played by three different actors: Nova Mosé-Foueillis, Savanna Steyn, and Nanna Blondell. A lot of us are having some trouble connecting with Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke due to our relationship with Milly Alcock and Emily Carey, who played Rhaenyra and Alicent. But not only has Laena gone through more actors, but she’s also had significantly less screen time. The character hasn’t even appeared in every episode so far.

In theory, you could keep the cast changing if the audience already connected with them. However, every other time “House of the Dragon” has used Laena up to this point, it’s not necessary to be honest. Our first meeting with her took place when she was 12 years old and her father, Lord Corlys (Steve Tousaaint), proposed that she marry King Viserys (Paddy Considine). This scene is intended to create annoying laughs. Laena is the prop, used by both her father and the show’s screenwriters.

The next time we see her, she’s a few years older and flirts with Daemon at Rhaenyra’s wedding party. Through these episodes, the only thing we know about her is that she likes dragons. She is playing a role in these scenes, not letting us into her true inner life. During her walk with Viserys, she even likened her father’s words. By the time Nanna Blondell showed up in episode six, she basically had to build an entire character from scratch because there was basically nothing established about her.
