How the last season of Atlanta season 3 focused on Zazie Beetz’s character Van

In an interview with PlaylistsStefani Robinson has detailed her work on “Atlanta” and how she became a screenwriter for the season 3 finale:

“It was delivered to me, and I thought, while I was filming ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ season 2. So I got a call from Donald. [Glover], and he said, ‘Hey.’ I was a bit away from the scriptwriter’s room because I was spending time in Toronto producing [What We Do in the Shadows]. So he said, ‘Rita, we found this episode for Van, and we’re thinking about her on her solo mission in Paris.’ And I wrote it, but that episode, in particular, has gone through tons of revisions, tons of reprints, and tons of remakes. “

The finale, titled “Tarrare,” features Van traveling through Paris to run errands that involve cannibalism with friends from Atlanta she didn’t expect to encounter and who end up helping her. Face the problems she’s running away from – it’s her responsibility as a parent. The episode is morbidly hilarious, with an unexpected celebrity appearance from Alexander Skarsgård playing himself. More importantly, the episode has a surprisingly grounded moment of reality towards the end, with Van admitting her fears and insecurities, seemingly out of her quirky French personality. With all that went on in the finale, it’s not surprising that the script went through so many tweaks.
