Many of us will remember when the Ministry’s yellow Form 4 fell into the mailbox. This form should be completed annually in order to have your forest premium paid later in the year in April or May.
However, these paper forms are no longer issued. Instead, all forest premium applications must now be submitted online via www.agfood.ie.
The “new” online application system has advantages, because you can now apply for your next forest premium from November. The ministry processes these online applications on an ongoing basis, so premium payments are made on a weekly basis. So the sooner you apply, the sooner you will get paid.
This important online form is easy to fill out once you know how it works. This step-by-step guide will help you with that.

After you click the Submit button, DAFM will review your Premium application. If everything is in order, the money will be sent straight to your bank account a few weeks later.
If you have forgotten your username or password or are unable to log in to www.agfood.ie, the DAFM Helpdesk (telephone 049-4368288, email firstname.lastname@example.org) can help you.
The forest department staff cannot help you with usernames or passwords, but they can assist you with questions about your forest bounty. You can reach the DAFM Forestry Premium Helpdesk at 053-9163425. Make sure you have your Forest Contract Number (CN) and/or Forest Owner Number (FO) to hand.

Forest events 2023
Well over a thousand people took part in one of our forestry events in 2022. These events have ranged from recreational walks organized at various locations across Ireland to our ‘Talking Timber’ softwood marketing event in Co Tipperary.
In addition, we also responded to thousands of forest-related inquiries at the Plowing Championships, Bloom, various Teagasc open houses such as the Teagasc National Sheep Open Day in Athenry or the Forestry Village at the Tullamore Show.
Looking ahead to 2023, the Teagasc Forestry Development Department has a significant number of national forestry events planned for 2023. All events are planned and designed to support the new (to be finalized) forestry program 2023-2027.
For example, Teagasc will be conducting a nationwide series of forest education events early in the year (once details of the new forest management program are finalized). This series will provide landowners with information about the new forestry program and related incentives.
This will be followed in late spring by a series of outdoor events focused on forest establishment and tree planting, reflecting the Forestry Program’s new “Forest Type” categories.
By attending a forest event, you will always get useful information, hear about an alternative approach, learn about the latest research, or get useful management tips.
