How to fall asleep fast – from the salad water trick to rubbing behind the ear

One of the most important ways to get some sleep is to change your sleeping habits. There are a number of ways you can do this.

According to TikTok star Dr. Brian Wachler can use salad water to help you fall asleep.

It should be noted that studies supporting this theory do not appear to exist. Based on a 2017 study, it appears that some types of lettuce at low and high doses caused mice to sleep longer.

He said: “If you’re having trouble sleeping at night, a glass of salad water might help as it contains two important substances, lactucin and lactucopicrin.

“They slow down the communication between your brain cells and make you sleepy.”

For the trick, to be repeated once a week, Wachler explained, “Try boiling a handful of romaine lettuce in water until tender, and after waiting for the boiling water to cool, fill a jar with it on top of the salad water, lie back in bed relaxed and drink it before you decide to nod off.”

However, lettuce is not a cure for a long-term sleep problem that a person may experience.

Sleepstation said, “TikTok hacks, herbal remedies, and all the various other sleep aids can provide short-term relief, but they only mask the underlying problem.”

Rubbing behind your ear

Some claim that rubbing behind the ear can help you sleep better at night.

dr Josh Hanson, an acupuncture expert, said on TikTok, “What you want to do is get to your ear, slide your finger back. You’ll find a little ridge right here, a little notch. It will be tender and sore.

“Rub 100-200 times in a circular motion and this will help relax your nervous system, calm things down and make sleep easier.”

Again, the scientific basis for this isn’t clear and it may be that finding a way to relax may be all it takes to help you fall asleep more easily.

Stress can keep us from sleeping as it keeps us more alert and active, and this can make our breathing shallow, while our heart rate and blood pressure Increase.

A number of breathing techniques can help you feel more relaxed, and one of these is known as the “4-7-8” method.

To do this, place the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth behind the front teeth and leave it there for the rest of the exercise.

Breathe in through your nose for four seconds and hold your breath for seven seconds. You should then exhale for eight seconds.

Sleep Foundation said, “Slow, deep breathing is one of the simplest and most fundamental ways to activate your body’s natural relaxation response.

“When you find yourself lying awake in bed, start by taking 10 deep breaths. This alone can slow the breath and create a sense of calm.”

Some research suggests that there are foods that may help you fall asleep.

In one study, people who ate kiwifruit an hour before bed said they fell asleep faster, slept longer, and had better sleep quality.

The reason kiwifruit may help with sleep isn’t fully understood, but the Sleep Foundation said, “Researchers believe this may be related to their antioxidant properties, ability to reverse folate deficiencies, and/or high levels of serotonin.”

Talking on the phone before bed or using other electronic devices has been linked to insomnia in teenagers.

Teenagers spend several hours a day looking at a screen, and research is ongoing into the effects of blue light on people asleep.

Limiting your exposure to blue light, most of which we get from the sun, can make you feel less awake.

dr Wachler said: “We all use some form of technology to stay connected throughout the day — from work emails to hanging out with friends. However, when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, staring at a screen before bed is a terrible idea.

“Try putting away your phones and tech an hour before bedtime and replace it with reading a book. Also, try spritzing essential oils like lavender on your pillow.”
