With the first one, you can find a number by searching for someone’s name, address, or anything else you know about them.

The second is what you need. You have only the number to go on and nothing else. You enter the number and see who it’s registered to, keeping in mind this doesn’t have to be the actual caller. This is called a reverse phone number search.

You can also try a social media search. While there’s no guarantee it will work, it’s free and fast. You can search any network where you have an account: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and more.

Wolfram Alpha

This somewhat strangely named platform is also quite useful. It is a free computing site with an extensive database. It can even provide some basic details about the caller’s location. Go to the website, wolframalpha.com, and enter the number preceded by the area code. You’ll get quite a few details, possibly the location where the number is registered.  

White Pages

This is a paid service, but it’s worth resorting to if you’re getting desperate to know who’s behind the number. It will give you the location of the caller. If you subscribe to the Premium version, you’ll see who the owner of the number is. The data on White Pages is always updated.

Near the top of the homepage, there’s a tab “Reverse Phone.” Click on the search bar and enter the number. There will be a search image to the right. After that, White Pages will pull up a list of results, including the person’s city, their phone service provider, even their name. If you don’t get enough to go on, it’s worth upgrading to Premium.

A Lot to get from Reverse Lookup

If someone has been calling you often from this number, it’s likely someone who knows you. Telemarketers tend to give up when they see no one is answering their calls. If your search is successful, you’ll get some personal information about the owner and even things like address and employment history. You’ll need to try several different lookup services to get an optimal amount of information. A single source probably won’t be sufficient. It really does pay off to look around until you find the best reverse phone lookup service.  

Tracking the Caller’s Location

Spy apps will provide information about their location, but it won’t be 100% reliable. These apps track location by connecting remotely to phones. You will find out who’s behind the calls and decide whether you want to answer them once you have these details. Spy apps can track other phone activity as well as text and email.  Tracing a cell phone number’s owner is not without its challenges. If they have requested it be removed from White Pages, you obviously won’t find out who they are.
