How to uncover HIDDEN iPhone texts and discover their real meaning

A TIKTOK star has issued a sharp warning to anyone who takes screenshots of their texts on their iPhone.

In a recent video, user @aminshayko showed how easy it is to uncover sensitive messages hidden in grabs.

When sharing a screenshot with others, it’s common to use a photo editor to cover up text you don’t want them to see.

Typically, people use the black highlighter in iPhone’s built-in photo editing tool to overwrite sensitive information.

However, as aminshayko points out, it’s easy to peek under the highlighter with a few simple touches.

In their video uploaded last year, TikToker showed how to use iPhone’s photo editor to remove black highlighter from Grabs.

Just tap on the screenshot and select “Edit” on the top right corner of your screen to open it in the photo editor.

Using the sliders under the image, turn “Brilliance” and “Exposure” to 100.

Next, turn “Contrast” down to -100. The text below the highlighter mark should now be visible.

The trick only works when something is covered by a dark highlighter.

This means that anything covered by, for example, the white highlighter or an emoji remains hidden.

The TikTok clip has garnered more than 600,000 views on TikTok since it was uploaded in September 2021.

In comments below the post, some users admired the nifty trick while others mocked it.

One wrote: “Everything it only works with the highlighter but it works I’ve been doing it for years.”

Another said: “Or maybe you just stick to your own business, you don’t need to know everything.”

A few commenters offered tips on how to make sure the workaround doesn’t catch you by surprise.

One said: “That’s why I crop screenshots.”

A second wrote: “It doesn’t work for other colors you know.”
