IF you want to try the latest iPhone features first, there’s a clever trick you need to know.
It’s the perfect time to study, as a major new iPhone update is lurking just around the corner.
We’re talking about the iOS beta on the iPhone.
This is a trial version of iOS that allows you to test new updates before they are rolled out more broadly.
We may only be a few weeks away from iOS 16.1 and it will be in beta soon.
So if you want to try all the new iPhone hacks, you should join the iOS beta as soon as possible.
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, however.
You definitely need to consider whether installing an iOS beta is right for you.
Ultimately, this is still test software, so you may encounter bugs – sometimes very serious.
So if you only have one iPhone, it can be frustrating to use a new iOS.
That said, the iOS public beta is usually pretty stable, so you shouldn’t find too many devastating issues.
You should also make sure that you have backed up all your data before installing a new iOS.
How to join the iOS 16 beta
To join the iOS beta, all you have to do is go to Apple’s website.
You can sign up for the iOS 16 beta here.
“Help make the next releases of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS and HomePod software our best yet,” Apple said.
“As a member of the Apple Beta Software Program, you can participate in shaping Apple software by testing pre-release versions and letting us know what you think.”
You’ll need to sign in and register your devices, which gives you a chance to test out the latest iOS 16 features once the public beta is live.
The beta will also include a special app called Feedback Assistant, which you can use to report any issues you find.
You need a valid Apple ID, and that’s it – there are no fees or compensation.
Installing the beta will also not affect your hardware warranty.
And you can leave the beta at any time.
Devices supported by iOS 16
Unfortunately, not all iPhone models can upgrade to iOS 16 (and therefore participate in the beta).
Apple can’t support all iPhones forever – so very old iPhone models often lose access to updates.
Sometimes these old iPhones aren’t capable of supporting new features, or not enough people are using them to justify deploying an update.
Now the iPhone 6S, iPhone 7 and 1st generation iPhone SE are being cut off by Apple.
These handsets were compatible with 15.6.1 but will not receive iOS 16.
If you’re using older iPhones, you’re already cut off, so consider upgrading to a newer model right away.
Here is the full list of devices supported by iOS 16:
- iPhone 14
- iPhone 14Plus
- iPhone 14 pro
- iPhone 14 pro max
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 pro
- iPhone 13 Pro max
- iphone 12
- iPhone 12 mini

- iPhone SE (2nd generation or newer)
If you can’t get the latest iOS, you’ll lose access to the latest security fixes.
These are critical patches that close vulnerabilities used by hackers to gain access to your systems.
So using a very old iPhone that cannot be updated could put you at risk.
If you can’t update to iOS 16, you’d better update your iPhone sooner rather than later.
