Ralph McTell’s song “Streets of London” was ringing in my ears this week. His ballad about the run-down British capital is not only a powerful song, but also a testament to the sadness of homelessness.

I live in rural Ireland and I only see homelessness when I go to one of our big cities, but for the past week I’ve faced it right on the streets of downtown Los Angeles. It’s an undeniable fact – a sign of a city of the rich and rich.
