Better still, some WhatsApp users can already access this brilliant new feature today.

A big change is coming to WhatsApp

If you’ve ever sent a large file on WhatsApp, you may have been frustrated at not receiving an ETA.

Worse, WhatsApp recently tested its ability to send huge files, up to 2GB in size.

Therefore, not having an ETA when sending large documents is impractical.

Now the WhatsApp sniffer dogs are attacking WABetaInfo have discovered a major change for the Meta-own chat app.

“WhatsApp is now releasing a feature that allows us to track when a document has been fully downloaded to our devices or uploaded to their servers,” explained WABetaInfo.

The feature is currently being tested in the “Beta” test version of WhatsApp.

So you’ll see if you’re enrolled – and if not, find out how to join at the bottom of this article.

The new update adds estimated arrival times when sharing documents.

This will indicate when your upload is complete.

And it will tell you how long to wait to download someone else’s file.

WhatsApp only started testing last month larger file sizes for document sharing.

If you want to send a very long video (or huge file), you may encounter a size limit.

That means the file you want to send is just too big to transfer via WhatsApp.

For example, it is currently impossible to send a file over 100MB on WhatsApp.

With file sizes exploding in the modern age, this is an easy limit to cross.

Now WhatsApp appears to be testing a feature that would allow users to send files up to 2GB in size.

That’s about 20 times more than the current limit.

WhatsApp is currently testing the switch in “beta” – a trial version of the app Used by die-hard fans and developers to see new features in action first.

That means it’s entirely possible that WhatsApp discards the change before it even makes it to the live app.

WhatsApp has also given no indication of when the change might roll out – so it could be weeks, months or even years.

How to get WhatsApp beta

To download WhatsApp Beta for your smartphone, you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.

Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.

Tap the “I’m in” button, then tap “Join” to confirm.

Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.

Participating in the WhatsApp beta on iPhone is more difficult and has a limited capacity.
