Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3

Ryan Reynolds has revealed that Hugh Jackman will reprise the role of Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie.

the character Deadpool first appeared on the big screen in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, before getting his own spin-off series.

Reynolds, 45, will return to play the lead role as the foul anti-hero in the third season, following the success of the 2016 original and its 2018 sequel.

On Tuesday, he revealed Wolverine will also appear in the third film.

The actor shared a video on Twitter showing him gently mocking the process behind making a new Deadpool movie before announcing the big news.

“We’re deeply saddened to miss D23 but we’ve been working really hard on the Deadpool sequel for a long time,” he said.

“I had to really do some soul searching on this, his first appearance in the MCU clearly needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new tastes and motivations, new meanings.

“Every Deadpool needs to stand out and be different. It was an incredible challenge that forced me to reach down, deep inside, and I had nothing.

“Just completely empty here and scary. But we have an idea.

“Hey Hugh, do you want to play Wolverine again?”

Jackman, 53, who apparently walked up the stairs and ate his food behind Reynolds’ back, said: “Yes, definitely Ryan.”

The actor, who played the Marvel character in eight X-Men films from 2000 to 2016, was last seen playing Wolverine in the independent film Logan in 2017.

He made a brief appearance in the second Deadpool film, but previously ruled out the chance of a cross between his character and the unlikely superhero Reynolds.

In March, Reynolds confirmed the second sequel would be directed by Shawn Levy, having worked together on the 2021 action comedy Free Guy and the newly released 2022 sci-fi film The Adam Project .

It’s another directorial change for the Marvel franchise, with the original 2016 Deadpool directed by Tim Miller and a sequel by David Leitch.

It’s also the first Deadpool movie since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, which distributed the first two.

In the video, Reynolds confirms Deadpool 3’s release date is September 6, 2024. Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3
