Hulu joins Adult Swim to sever ties with Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland

US streaming service Hulu has tracked Adult Swim into ending its relationship with Justin Roiland, following allegations of domestic violence against creators Ricky and Morty.

The writer, 42, faces a felony charge of domestic violence against an ex-girlfriend.

Prosecutors in Orange County, California, previously charged Roiland with felony injury and wrongful imprisonment by intimidation, fraud, violence or deception against the woman he was living with. at that time.

Roiland is the co-creator of Hulu’s Solar Opposites, and is also a producer and actor on the studio’s other animated show, Koala Man.

In a statement shared with US media, Hulu and 20th TV Animation said: “We have terminated our partnership with Justin Roiland.”

It comes after a similar statement was made by Adult Swim.

“Adult Swim has ended its partnership with Justin Roiland. Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated team is working hard on Season 7,” said Adult Swim.

Along with Dan Harmon, Roiland created the animated sci-fi sitcom about a mad scientist and his grandson, and also voiced the two main characters.

Rick and Morty aired six seasons on Cartoon Network as part of the adult show block Swim at Night.

Roiland has pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges against him.

The incident happened in January 2020 and Roiland was charged in May of that year, but the allegations did not seem to have been noticed by the media until NBC News reported last Thursday, when a a pre-trial hearing of the case is held.

Emails seeking comment from Roiland’s attorney and representatives of Cartoon Network, which airs Rick and Morty in the US, were not immediately answered. Roiland will return to court in April.

The test date has not been decided yet.
