Hundreds gather to visit Kellie-Jay Keen in Brighton

HUNDREDS gathered in one of the city’s parks to visit a controversial speaker.

Kellie-Jay Keen, also known as Posie Parker, has announced that she will be visiting Brighton as part of her nationwide Speaker’s Corner Tour.

There was a heavy police presence in Victoria Gardens, Brighton this afternoon to keep the two sides apart.

Kellie-Jay Keen has sparked a backlash from LGBTQ+ activists who have criticized her views on transgender rights, saying they are transphobic.

One group was there to support Ms. Keen while the other group was there to show Ms. Keen that “she is not welcome here”.

People held up signs reading “Transphobic rhetoric leads to trans violence” and “Trans rights are human rights.”

They also said Ms Keen’s supporters were “not feminists” and said “we don’t want Terfs in Brighton”.

Terf stands for trans-exclusionary radical feminist, meaning someone “excludes the rights of transgender women from their advocacy for women’s rights.”

In a video promoting the event, Ms Keen said Brighton was “inundated with… nasty, harmful, misogynist Pride flags”.

She said: “If we call Brighton the lesbian and gay capital of the UK, they must be the victims of this absolutely despicable gay conversion therapy known as transgenderism.”

Campaign group LGB With The T branded the event a “hate cult gathering” and accused them of “putting Brighton down”.

Another group called Reclaim Pride Brighton posted messages on social media urging people to “oppose terfs in Brighton”.

Her message read: “Posie Parker is bringing her transphobic hate spree to Brighton and we have to make it clear that she is not welcome here.

“She teams with violent eliminators and fascists to incite hatred of trans people and divide our community. We will not allow that.”

Two arrests were made by Sussex Police in Victoria Gardens around 2.45pm.

One man was arrested on suspicion of assault and one on suspicion of obstructing a police officer.

Both were taken into custody.
