Hundreds in Woodingdean have been left without water after a burst pipe

PEOPLE in parts of the city have been without water since yesterday afternoon.

A water main burst on Kipling Avenue, Woodingdean, leaving residents with only a trickle running from the faucets.

A woman, who lives in Holton Hill but asked not to be named, said she has yet to receive bottled water and has bought supplies herself.

Southern Water does not know when supplies will return to normal.

The resident said: “We found it gone at 1pm yesterday, we didn’t see an update online yesterday.

“My husband came in and turned on the faucet and said there was no water. We called them, they were helpful on the phone and explained.

“But I don’t think calling them or checking Twitter for updates is really good enough, there are people who don’t have access to the internet. It’s not fair, they should be knocking on doors.

“A lot of people said they didn’t get bottled water. We went out and got something ourselves.”

The woman said it was “a bit grim” that they hadn’t been able to wash dishes or take a shower.

Southern Water apologized to the people on Kipling Avenue who “may be waking up with no water or negative pressure.”

A spokesman said: “We are working hard to get customers back up and running normally. Meanwhile, we are preparing water bottle deliveries.

“Unfortunately we do not currently have a timetable of how long it will be before things return to normal, but we are working as quickly as possible as we understand how difficult and inconvenient it is to be without running water.
