Dissatisfied passengers have to wait two days on Kos as their TUI flight is experiencing “technical difficulties”.
Hundreds of frustrated travelers who were due to fly to Belfast are stranded in Greece after their flight has been canceled for two days in a row.
The TUI flight was due to depart from Kos Airport at 9.20pm on Saturday night but was grounded due to “technical difficulties”.
TUI officials told travelers that the replacement flight due to depart on Sunday has been cancelled, meaning passengers will have waited 48 hours to return home.
Speak with Live in BelfastPassengers said that “over 200 passengers”, after going through security and waiting at the gate to board, were escorted back through the airport by local police to collect their luggage and taken to a hotel 45 minutes away .
A holidaymaker from Co Fermanagh said people at the hotel were “arguing and angry” and families were worried they didn’t have enough formula for their babies.
He said: “The airport was tiny and the crowd was insane, it was rammed and there was an hour and a half queuing for a fast food restaurant.
“I just want to go home — a lot of people are complaining.”

He continued: “This hotel is now full of passengers going to Belfast and I’ve heard people complaining that they were supposed to be working today but have had to call and cancel at work to say they’re always still stuck in Kos.
“I know it’s quite upsetting to me personally because you’re talking about a nearly nine hour drive from the hotel in Kos to my home in Fermanagh.
“To be fair to TUI they set us up in this hotel with all inclusive so people have mixed feelings. Some are happy with their free bar, others are angry because they are not coming home.”
Another group of passengers from Northern Ireland waiting to go home said they were “struck” by the delay and uncertainty of the situation.
They added: “There are several small children here, people have no jobs and have been put in a hotel with substandard rooms, ants in the suitcases and smelly musty rooms.
“Many people have had to contact their employers as they were unable to provide any information as to when they will return to work.”
They said they were informed just after 6pm in Greece, they were told there would be no flight tonight as many people were dissatisfied with the quality of the hotel as they said “the rooms are very poor” .
A TUI spokesman said: “We would like to apologize to customers traveling from Kos to Belfast on flight TOM1649, which was unable to depart as planned due to operational issues.
“Everyone could stay in their hotels and meals were provided. We are in touch and will update them with revised travel plans as soon as possible.
“We understand that delays are frustrating and we thank all affected customers for their patience. Customers on this flight are entitled to compensation under the regulations and have already received information on how to make a claim.”
