Hurricane Danielle is causing “uncertainty” to Ireland’s weather forecast with widespread showers expected today

Met Éireann said the outlook for the coming days was very “uncertain” due to Hurricane Danielle.

It is the first hurricane of the season to sweep across the North Atlantic but is now beginning to move north and northeast, in the general direction of Ireland.

The meteorologist is saying at the moment that Saturday appears to be mainly dry with good periods of sunshine. The highest temperatures are between 20°C and 21°C with light variable breezes.

Current indications are that Sunday will start dry with rain spreading from the southwest and becoming heavy.

The remainder of the forecast period into the early days of next week indicates continued volatile conditions with intermittent rain and temperatures above the seasonal norm.

Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly said the current track of Hurricane Danielle shows it turning on Friday and returning southeast over the weekend, but there is still a risk of heavy rain on Sunday, but details remain uncertain.

Meanwhile, showers will be widespread across the country today, many will be heavy, with localized thunderstorm showers potentially leading to spot flooding.

The highest temperatures are between 17 °C and 20 °C with moderate easterly winds.

More showers or longer rain showers are most likely to occur over the southern half of the country tonight.

The lowest temperatures are between 13°C and 14°C with light to moderate east to north-easterly winds.

Thursday will initially have sunny spells with showers in eastern areas and then spread to all areas, some heavy with the possibility of thunderstorms.

Showers will be scattered later in the day with highs between 17C and 20C with light to moderate northeast breezes.

Showers will mostly die out and it will be largely dry for a while Thursday evening, then rain will spread from the northeast and spread south, mainly affecting eastern counties.

The lowest temperatures are between 13°C and 14°C with light to moderate north-west winds.

On Friday the showers will be less intense and become less frequent as the day progresses. Highest temperatures range between 18°C ​​and 21°C with light to moderate north-west winds.
