Huw Edwards was caught eating a croissant during BBC election coverage

Veteran broadcaster Huw Edwards admits he feels ’embarrassed’ after being caught feeding croissants live on BBC News.

The 60-year-old admitted he was tempted during the channel’s coverage of local elections.

Co-star Reeta Chakrabarti was filming characters on the BBC News set when the camera panned to Huw, who was licking his lips and wiping away debris.

Holding his hand, Huw explainedL “I have to admit to you that I just ate some croissants.

“So I just finished it and I’m embarrassed to say it but you do. It’s 20 to six in the morning…”

Edwards worked the night shift from 11:40 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.

He quickly wiped away the debris

He then joked about the hilarious moment with political scientist Professor Sir John Curtice, who appeared on the show to give an analysis of the results.

While introducing Sir Curtice, the broadcaster said: “I was just wondering if Sir John Curtice helped himself to the French bakery this morning as he was mulling over his data.”

Curtice then replied, “I was just going to say, Huw, are you going to send them to us, because they certainly haven’t gotten here yet.”

He defended the election overnight

Edwards said: “I will deliver at six o’clock Jonathan, no questions asked.”

Viewers were delighted with the mini croissant and took to social media to comment on the moment.

“Huw Edwards deserves his little croissant,” joked one user while another tweeted: “Huw Edwards is a legend,” along with a few amusing emojis.

Another said: “Good morning with just some Huw Edwards croissants.”

“Huw Edwards ate croissants the only time # LocalElections22 news you need today,” said one user.

One Twitter user posted: “I love watching that man on TV. He can eat a three-course meal in news time and I’ll pardon him and see.”

A weather presenter on BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball Breakfast Show later joked about the incident by taking a bite of a donut mid-air.

She said, “I’ll admit to you I just ate some donuts. I’m just finishing it up. I’m embarrassed to say it, but you do.”
