I begged EastEnders bosses to not kill my character off by suicide earlier than near-death motorcycle crash, says Sean Maguire

SEAN Maguire has opened up about his time as a cleaning soap star and why he requested EastEnders bosses to not kill his character off by suicide.

However Sean has revealed bosses deliberate to kill Aidan off throughout an explosive Christmas Day episode – by having the character take his personal life.

Showing on the Celebrity Catch Up podcast, he mentioned: “I obtained various letters from younger individuals, particularly younger those that had been having a tricky time, and after they advised me the character was going to commit suicide, I mentioned to them, ‘Please don’t.

“‘I’m completely happy to depart in any trend you need, however please don’t have him commit suicide’. As a result of inevitably there are suicides round Christmas – sadly generally they’re younger individuals and I do know that the tabloids will say it’s a copycat dying and so they copied me or one thing, that’s potential – and I couldn’t cope with that.

“My conscience couldn’t cope with that. That might break me if I felt in any method answerable for one thing like that.”

Sean continued: “I mentioned, ‘Please discover one other method. I’m not telling you find out how to run your present, however please don’t do this. Don’t do this on Christmas Day. It’ll spoil the nation’s Christmas’.

“And so they had been like, ‘No, that’s what we’re doing’. And I used to be like, ‘OK, effectively I’ve voiced my opinion’.”

However in a coincidence, a real-life near-death bike accident meant Sean was unable to movie the meant storyline.

“After which as luck, unhealthy luck, would have it, I broke my leg per week or two later in a… I used to be doing a silly motorcylce factor that I shouldn’t have been doing,” Sean mentioned.

“I broke my leg very, very badly and really almost killed myself, very almost really died within the motorcyle accident, had I hit the wall in a different way.

“If I’d have hit it with my head I’d be useless for positive, as a result of I hit the wall at about 50mph.

“And since I broke my leg I couldn’t stroll and since I couldn’t stroll, I couldn’t soar off a constructing. So destiny form of stepped in after which Aidan simply went off again to Eire or one thing, I believe.”
